Product Overview

Tandoor Oven Burner – AS06 — Complete Overview

What Is the Tandoor Oven Burner – AS06?

The Tandoor Oven Burner – AS06 is the main combustion component of a commercial gas tandoor oven — the large circular ring at the base of the clay or stainless steel pot that delivers 100,000 BTU of heat to bring the oven to cooking temperature and maintain it throughout service. Every Tandoor Morni CH Series, T Series, and A Series gas tandoor oven is factory-fitted with this burner, and this replacement unit is built to the exact same factory specification: matched orifice diameter, identical ring geometry, and the same cast iron construction that delivers consistent, even heat distribution across the full circumference of the pot.

The burner operates as a continuous ring of gas jets that produce a uniform wall of heat across the base of the inner pot — clay or stainless steel. This 360-degree heat envelope is what distinguishes a tandoor oven from any other cooking equipment and produces the extreme radiant temperatures that make authentic naan, tandoori meats, and seekh kebabs possible at commercial speed. When the burner is operating at factory spec, the oven reaches 700–900°F within 20–30 minutes of ignition and holds that temperature reliably through a full multi-hour service without degradation.

Tandoor Oven Burner – AS06 vs Pilot Assembly — Understanding the Difference

The burner and the pilot assembly (AS13) are two separate components that work together to operate the oven. The pilot assembly maintains a small continuous flame and includes the safety thermocouple that holds the gas valve open — it is the ignition and safety system. The tandoor oven burner is the main combustion ring that delivers the high-volume heat that actually cooks the food. Understanding which component to replace determines whether you order this burner or the AS13 pilot assembly:

  • Oven will not light at all / pilot will not hold — replace the pilot assembly AS13
  • Oven lights but reaches temperature slowly, flame is weak or uneven, or oven cannot sustain temperature during service — replace this tandoor oven burner
  • Both symptoms present — order both; contact Tandoor Morni service for guidance

When Is the Tandoor Oven Burner – AS06 Replacement Needed?

Replace the tandoor oven burner when any of the following occur: the oven takes more than 35 minutes to reach cooking temperature from cold; the flame ring is visibly uneven — some jets firing strongly, others weakly or not at all; the oven cannot sustain operating temperature during a busy service and requires constant valve adjustment; carbon deposits on the burner body are so severe that cleaning does not restore even flame distribution; or the burner body shows visible corrosion, warping, or physical damage. In high-volume commercial kitchens running daily double-service operations, a proactive burner replacement every 3–5 years at annual service is the most reliable way to prevent unplanned downtime.

Key Features

Why Choose the Genuine Tandoor Morni Replacement Burner?

100,000 BTU — Factory Output Restored

The replacement burner matches the exact factory BTU specification — 100,000 BTU — restoring the oven’s ability to reach 700–900°F within 20–30 minutes and hold that temperature across a full service. No aftermarket substitute delivers the same calibrated output.

Cast Iron Construction

Cast iron body for exceptional heat retention, durability, and resistance to the extreme thermal cycling of daily commercial tandoor service. Cast iron maintains structural integrity at sustained 700–900°F operating temperatures across years of continuous use — and delivers the even, consistent heat distribution that the 360° ring geometry requires.

360° Even Heat Distribution

The ring geometry and orifice placement are calibrated to produce a uniform flame wall around the full circumference of the clay or stainless pot — the same even heat that makes authentic tandoori results possible. Asymmetric aftermarket burners create hot spots and uneven cooking.

Preserves Oven Certification

Using the genuine Tandoor Morni replacement burner maintains the oven’s CSA Z83.11, ETL, and NSF certification status as applicable to your model. Non-approved aftermarket burners can invalidate one or more certifications — a compliance risk in any licensed commercial kitchen.

Propane & Natural Gas Versions

Available in both propane and natural gas configurations. Each version is orifice-calibrated for the correct gas pressure and flow rate of that fuel type. Specify at purchase — both are stocked and available at the same price.

In Stock — Ships in 1–2 Days

Stocked at Tandoor Morni’s US warehouse locations for fast dispatch. Minimize commercial kitchen downtime — order before noon for same-day dispatch, delivered in 3–5 business days with full in-transit insurance.

Important — Specify Fuel Type: The tandoor oven burner is orifice-calibrated for either propane or natural gas. Confirm your fuel type at the time of ordering. Fitting the wrong fuel configuration creates a dangerous combustion imbalance — do not self-convert. Contact Tandoor Morni if you are unsure of your oven’s fuel configuration.

Fault Diagnosis

Tandoor Oven Burner – AS06 — Fault Diagnosis

Before ordering a replacement burner, confirm the fault is with the burner and not the pilot assembly or gas supply. Use this guide to identify the root cause precisely.

Oven lights but takes over 35 minutes to reach temperature

Likely Cause: Partial jet blockage from carbon deposits — some orifices are restricted, reducing total BTU output below 100,000. Check by inspecting the flame ring at ignition — partial blockage shows as uneven flame height around the ring.

Resolution: Clean orifices with compressed air and a fine wire brush first. If flame is still uneven after cleaning, replace the burner.

Flame ring is uneven — strong on one side, weak or absent on the other

Likely Cause: Blocked or corroded orifices on the affected side of the ring. In severe cases, physical warping of the burner body from thermal stress has displaced the jet positions, permanently altering flame geometry.

Resolution: If cleaning does not restore even flame distribution, or if warping is visible, replace the burner. Uneven heat permanently compromises naan baking quality and cooking consistency.

Oven cannot sustain temperature during busy service

Likely Cause: Degraded burner output — the oven reaches temperature initially but cannot maintain it once food loads are introduced. May also indicate low gas supply pressure during peak demand. Rule out gas supply pressure first before replacing the burner.

Resolution: Have a licensed gas fitter check gas supply pressure at the oven inlet during service conditions. If pressure is correct and the issue persists, replace the burner.

Oven will not light at all / pilot will not hold

Likely Cause: This is a pilot assembly fault, not a burner fault. The burner cannot be the cause of pilot failure — the pilot and burner are separate gas circuits. Do not order this burner for this symptom.

Resolution: Order the Gas Tandoor Pilot Assembly AS13 — it is the correct part for pilot ignition and hold faults.

Yellow or orange flame instead of blue

Likely Cause: Incomplete combustion — typically caused by blocked orifices producing a fuel-rich mixture, or by incorrect air-to-gas ratio. A yellow flame also deposits soot inside the clay pot and accelerates fouling of all gas components.

Resolution: Clean orifices first. If flame colour does not return to blue after cleaning, the orifice geometry is damaged — replace the burner. A licensed gas fitter should also check air shutter adjustment.

Visible corrosion, warping, or physical damage to burner body

Likely Cause: End of service life. In high-volume commercial kitchens, the burner body is exposed to extreme thermal cycling — 20–30 heat-up and cool-down cycles per week — which eventually fatigues the metal and causes permanent structural change.

Resolution: Replace immediately. A physically damaged burner creates unpredictable combustion — a safety and compliance risk in a certified commercial kitchen.

Installation Guide

How to Replace the Burner on a Commercial Gas Tandoor Oven

Burner replacement must be performed by a licensed gas fitter. The procedure is straightforward and typically takes 30–60 minutes on a fully cooled oven. For the complete pilot assembly replacement procedure, see the Gas Tandoor Pilot Assembly AS13 page.

⚠ Licensed Gas Fitter Required: Any work on the gas assembly of a certified commercial tandoor oven — including burner replacement — must be performed by a licensed gas fitter. Unlicensed installation voids CSA Z83.11, ETL, and NSF certifications and creates a compliance liability with your health department and commercial insurance policy.

Step 1 — Shut down oven and close gas supply

Turn the control knob to OFF. Close the main gas supply valve at the wall. Allow the oven to cool completely — a minimum of 2 hours after last use. The clay pot and copper exterior retain heat for extended periods; never work on a hot oven. Minimum cooling time: 2 hours.

Step 2 — Access the burner

The main burner is located at the base of the clay or stainless steel pot interior, accessible through the oven mouth. Identify the main gas supply line connection at the burner inlet fitting and the mounting bracket or screws securing the burner ring to the base structure.

Step 3 — Disconnect the existing burner

Using an appropriate spanner, disconnect the main gas line at the burner inlet fitting. Remove the mounting bracket screws. Carefully lift the burner ring out through the oven mouth. Note the orientation and inlet position before removal — the replacement must be installed in the same orientation.

Step 4 — Install the replacement burner

Lower the replacement burner ring into position with the gas inlet aligned to the supply line access point. Secure the mounting bracket. Connect the main gas supply line to the burner inlet — hand-tighten then snug with a spanner. Do not overtighten brass inlet fittings.

Step 5 — Open gas supply and check all connections for leaks

Open the main gas supply valve. Apply approved gas leak detector solution to every connection made during installation. Inspect carefully for bubbles. If any leak is detected, immediately close the gas supply and re-tighten the relevant fitting before proceeding. Do not proceed with any leak present.

Step 6 — Light the pilot and ignite the burner

Light the pilot assembly following the standard procedure — turn to PILOT, press and hold, ignite, hold for 45 seconds, release. With the pilot confirmed holding, turn the control knob to the operating position. The replacement burner should ignite immediately from the pilot flame. Inspect the flame ring — it should be a strong, even blue ring around the full circumference of the burner.

Step 7 — Commission to full operating temperature

Bring the oven to full operating temperature and confirm it reaches 700–900°F within 20–30 minutes. Verify the flame remains stable and even throughout the heat-up cycle. The replacement burner is fully commissioned and the oven is ready for service. Expected time to operating temperature: 20–30 minutes.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions — Tandoor Oven Burner – AS06

What is a tandoor oven burner? +
The tandoor oven burner is the main combustion ring of a commercial gas tandoor oven — a circular cast iron component at the base of the clay or stainless pot that delivers 100,000 BTU of heat to bring the oven to 700–900°F. It is separate from the pilot assembly: the pilot ignites the burner, and the burner produces the high-volume heat that cooks the food.
Which tandoor ovens is the replacement burner compatible with? +
The Tandoor Morni replacement burner is compatible with all nine models in the commercial range — CH Series: Restaurant Tandoor Oven CH02, Natural Gas Tandoor Oven CH04, Middle Eastern Tandoor Oven CH06 · T Series: Indian Tandoor Oven T02, CSA ETL NSF Tandoor Oven T04, Punjabi Tandoor Oven T06 · A Series: Propane Gas Tandoor Oven A02, Stainless Steel Tandoor Oven A04, Large Indoor Tandoor Oven A06. Confirm your model number before ordering.
How do I know if I need the burner or the pilot assembly? +
If the oven will not light at all, or the pilot will not hold after releasing the control knob — order the Pilot Assembly AS13. If the oven lights and the pilot holds but the oven heats slowly, the flame ring is uneven or yellow, or the oven cannot sustain temperature during service — order this Tandoor Oven Burner – AS06. If both faults are present, order both.
What BTU output does the replacement burner deliver? +
100,000 BTU — matching the factory-original specification for all CH, T, and A Series commercial gas tandoor ovens. This output brings the oven to 700–900°F in 20–30 minutes from cold and maintains it through full service periods.
Does the burner work with both propane and natural gas? +
Yes, but fuel type must be specified at purchase — the burner orifice is calibrated for one fuel type only. Fitting a propane-configured burner to a natural gas oven (or vice versa) creates a combustion fault. Contact Tandoor Morni to confirm your oven’s fuel type if you are unsure.
Can I install the replacement burner myself? +
Installation must be performed by a licensed gas fitter. Self-installation may void the CSA Z83.11, ETL, or NSF certification of your oven and create a compliance issue with your health department and commercial kitchen insurance. A licensed gas fitter can complete the procedure in 30–60 minutes on a cooled oven.
Does the Tandoor Oven Burner – AS06 ship free? +
Yes — free shipping to any contiguous US address. In stock and ships within 1–2 business days, with 3–5 business day delivery and full in-transit insurance. Contact Tandoor Morni for Canada shipping options.
How often should the tandoor oven burner be replaced? +
In a high-volume commercial kitchen running daily double service, a proactive burner replacement every 3–5 years at annual service is recommended. In lower-volume operations, replace when performance symptoms appear — slow heat-up, uneven flame, or inability to sustain temperature. Quarterly visual inspection of the flame ring during startup catches degradation early.
