Instructions
How to Make Instant Pot Chicken and Dumplings – Step-by-Step
Step 1. Prep the Chicken
- Pat dry your chicken and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. For added depth, marinate it in yogurt, lemon juice, paprika, cumin, and turmeric for 30 minutes before searing or tandoor-cooking.
Step 2. Optional Tandoor Roasting (Flavor Booster)
- For a restaurant-style touch, thread the marinated chicken onto skewers and place them in your R26 Residential Mini Tandoor. Roast for about 10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until lightly charred. Let it rest and chop into bite-sized pieces.
- This step is optional, but it enhances the final taste with a wood-fired aroma—like merging chicken pot pie soup with grilled perfection.
Step 3. Sauté the Veggies in the Instant Pot
- Set your Instant Pot to Sauté mode. Melt butter, then add onions and garlic. Sauté for 2–3 minutes until soft and fragrant.
- Add carrots, celery, potatoes, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir for another 2 minutes.
Step 4. Add Chicken, Soup Base, and Seasoning
- Stir in your cream of chicken soup, broth, thyme, and your prepared chicken (raw or pre-tandoor roasted). If using raw chicken, make sure it’s fully submerged.
- Cancel Sauté mode. Secure the lid, set the valve to Sealing, and cook on Manual Pressure for 10 minutes.
- Let pressure naturally release for 5 minutes, then perform a quick release for any remaining pressure.
Step 5. Shred Chicken & Add Peas and Cream
- Carefully remove the chicken from the pot and shred it using two forks.
- Return shredded chicken to the Instant Pot. Stir in frozen peas and heavy cream (or milk) for richness. Turn the Instant Pot back to Sauté mode.
- Taste and adjust salt and pepper as needed. Let it simmer gently while preparing dumplings.
Step 6. Make the Dumplings
- In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and chopped parsley. Cut in cold butter until the mixture looks crumbly.
- Pour in milk and stir just until combined—don’t overmix. You should have a thick, spoonable dough.
- Using a tablespoon, drop dumpling dough directly into the bubbling soup. Space them slightly apart.
- Cover with a glass lid (or loosely place the Instant Pot lid on top without locking) and let dumplings cook in the simmering soup for 10–12 minutes, or until they’re puffed up and cooked through.
Step 7. Serve and Garnish
- Ladle rich chicken and dumplings into bowls, making sure each one gets a fluffy biscuit-like dumpling. Garnish with extra parsley or cracked pepper if desired.
- This is the comfort of chicken pot pie soup, elevated with grilled chicken, creamy broth, and pillowy dumplings—all in one pot.
Pro Tips for Taco Success
- Creamy Texture: Use cream of chicken soup and finish with a splash of cream for a truly velvety mouthfeel.
- Dumpling Don’ts: Avoid overmixing or they’ll turn dense. Also, don’t stir once they’re added to the soup—just let them steam!
- Tandoor Substitute: Use a grill pan or broiler if you don’t have a tandoor. Aim for charred edges to mimic the smokiness.
- Reheat Friendly: Tastes even better the next day as the flavors deepen!
